This walk follows a popular route leading to the summit of Slieve Donard (850m), Northern Ireland's highest mountain ascending from Newcastle through the woods along the Glen River and following the Mourne Wall to the summit cairn.

Slieve Gullion is 573m high and is centred on the craggy heather covered hills of a circular ring dyke volcano that erupted over 50 million years ago. It is a Special Area of Conservation which recognises the importance of the geology and the upland heather moorland.
